Monthly Meeting / Hack Night

15 Nov 2005 - 5:30pm

This month's meeting (Tue 15 Nov) will be in the basement of 2035 Broadway, 92102 - the "Pink Palace" building at Golden Hill. Arrive anytime after 5:30 to join in the fun.

We have a great night planned. We're going to have a hands on "hack night" at Golden Hill. We have two great projects for learning, doing or just watching. Everyone is welcome to come by.

  1. Relocate / Organize the Pink Palace Data Center

We're relocating our "Pink Palace data center" from a jam packed small ceiling mounted box to a full size lockable rackmount cabinet. This involves moving some cat-5 cables, relocating the UPS blocks, relocating most of the equipment, labelling everything ... and hoping it all works when we turn it back on ;-) !

This is a great opportunity to see how the heart of the Golden Hill network runs: check out the gear, ask lots of questions, and help lighten the load by helping out. Bring your cat-5 crimpers if you have any. Cameras welcomed!

  2. Light up La Cresta with a brand new feed

La Cresta was the 2nd node at Golden Hill and the subject of lots of experiments with our homebrew 802.11a relay and similar projects. It was also the epicenter of 4 radio loss from lightning which set the record for our most extensive down time in 3 years!

Last Saturday we had an impromptu volunteer day and succesfully moved everything possible to ground level. Tuesday night we're going to patch in the new DSL feed that was lit last Friday and finally make La Cresta a primary node. Not so much to do at this location, but interesting to see.

Hope to see you there!
