SoCalFreeNet's monthly meeting will be this 3rd Tuesday of the month, at Maxim Systems in Mission Valley. We have an exciting meeting this month! First we'll have a presentation by some of the SoCalFreeNet members who recently helped out with Katrina recovery efforts in Bay St Louis. Some great slides, a few movies and lots of Q & A. Next, we need to configure 80 (eighty!) bridges that Mercado Barrio Logan apartment residents will be using for access. These are great little boxes that run Linux that we purchased at great discount specifically for this project. We need to flash them, add an instruction sheet and confirm they work.

Come help the residents of the Mercado Apartments get their computers online with the wireless system SoCalFreenet has installed. Come earlier to catch the end of the internet training class they're doing and then go back to their apartment and help them get their computer online. It should be a fun and rewarding time for all!

When we installed equipment at (K26 924 26th St. San Diego, CA 92102), it was in a temporary location until the property owner could re-roof the building. We're now at the point where we can move the radios to their permanent location on the chimney. This will give us much better local coverage and allow us to back-haul to both 26th/Cst. and 27th/Broadway nodes. The install starts Just after the monthly install day, at 11:00 AM. Email Contact@socalfreenet.org to volunteer, or just show up.
